The first device that creates cancer diagnosis preparations installed in Russia in St. Petersburg
The new generation cyclotron is designed by the Belgian company IBA. It will produce isotope fluorine-18 in St. Petersburg. The members of the Institute now obtain a radioactive element with the help of the Belgian apparatus, and the element is then becomes the source material for a glucose-based preparation which is intended for intravenous administration. After the introduction the preparation accumulates in cancer cells, which then helps identify the affected organ, with the use of a tomographic scanner, the experts explained.
